What is Passion Play about?
The Passion Play, also known as an Easter pageant, is a powerful performance that depicts Jesus Christ's conviction, agony, and execution. In some Christian groups, notably the Catholic tradition, it is a typical aspect of Lent.

The Play Has a Rich Historic Background
The Passion Play's history dates back over 400 years. The disease swept over many sections of Europe, including Oberammergau.
In 1633, the Oberammergau peasants agreed to recreate Christ's torture, death, and rise every 10 years in exchange for no one dying of the plague. God answered the peasants' prayers, and the first Passion Play took place in 1634. Until now, the promise has been honoured. Due to the corona-pandemic in 2020, the Passion Play had to be postponed for two years. The 42nd Oberammergau Passion Play will now run from May 14th to October 2nd, 2022.
